SPOKEN POETRY

Play. Shuffle. Pause. Stop. Repeat.

Play. Shuffle. Pause. Stop. Repeat. I believe that songs play an essential part in our lives. I love songs. I listen to different types of songs everyday. I listen while I am taking a bath, while I am doing the dishes, I love to listen to songs. Personally, I have this thinking that a person’s life journey is like listening to songs. Play. Shuffle. Pause. Stop. Repeat.
Play. When we listen to songs, of course we push the button that says play. Just like what we do everyday. We wake up and pray, and we sway and play, and pay to make it through the day With hopes of living a better life someday. We play. We make decisions day to day, like how we decide on songs we want to listen to on our bad day. We play. We play, we gamble everyday till under the green grass we lay.
Shuffle. We have this playlists that we can count on when we cannot decide on what to listen to. We press shuffle because we know we would love whatever song comes next. There are days in our lives when we cannot pick between pancakes and waffles, So you ask people you trust to pick your meal while you take the basket of apples. Shuffle. You feel carefree and happy, and easy, because the people in your journey are trustworthy. And just when you thought life can shuffled and decisions can be made like raffles, a problem comes and now you’re baffled. You’ll see that not everyone in your playlist has the same song you’re singing. Now, your trust in people becomes crumbly like crust. Now, you need to take a break!
Pause. We pause songs when something unexpected happened and we wish to continue later. Pause. In sentences we pause when we want to say another clause, in life we pause cause we are lost. When we are lost, and feels like we’re no longer the boss, we pause. We pause when we can’t decide which sauce goes with the crabs with claws. We pause to think, when we are in the brink of falling, when we are vomitting on the sink. Sink. We sometimes sink, and drown, and frown, but we pause and then pick up our crown We pause to rest and to think of what to do best, and how to get out of the mess, and how to win this life’s chess. Pausing is a blessing and the Lord’s way of saying we should be thinking or waiting, or stopping.
Stop. We press stop when we choose to end a particular song. Maybe because we do not want it at the moment. Maybe because we outgrew it. Maybe because the song brings back unwanted memories. Stop. This is what we do when we choose to end our hurting, doubting, suffering, or even loving. In life, we stop. We stop after we sob, we stop, and double tap. Double tap signifies surrender. Surrender. We sometimes need to surrender and end the emotions and time we’ve rendered so we can be remembered. We stop and remember that aside from the other members of your life you should love you among others. Stop. We stop and surrender to end the bitter for a sweeter and much better happily ever after.
Lastly, repeat. There are songs that we listen to and we never get tired of them. We play them a hundred times a day. Repeat. We should repeat happy memories in our brains. Repeat. History repeats itself but it doesn’t mean that if something bad happened before, the same bad thing will happen again, to you, we are meant to learn from it. Repeat. Everyday, the playing, and shuffling, and pausing, and stopping, and repeating happen again and again so we need to keep fighting, and smiling, and singing. Singing. We have to keep singing. For life’s a song that we’ll sing to the people who’ll keep listening when the time comes that our journey’s near its ending.
